topics

The sampling of  topics highlighted here follow the textbook outline. Each topic will be evaluated beforehand to ensure that it is applicable to your situation.

introduction

What are the purposes of the  organization in today’s world? The metaphor of the organization as a structure that
creates value for stakeholders is too simplistic.

master context

Three basic reasons why department leaders are important: for organizational effectiveness, to function as anchors and guides, and to analyze the context and transcend it.

the basics

The first basic ingredient of leadership is a guiding vision. The second is passion. The next is integrity, which is the basis of trust.

self-knowledge

People begin to become leaders at that moment when they decide for themselves how to be. Self-knowledge means separating who you are and who you want to be from what the world thinks you are and wants you to be.

know the world

Since by definition
leaders are unique, what they learn and how they use it to shape the future is unique, too. To become a true leader, one must know the world as well as one knows one’s self.

trust yourself

Rely as much on your intuitive and conceptual skills as on your logical and analytical talents. Become are whole-brained person, capable of using both sides of your brain. Learn to operate on intelligent instinct.

strike hard

“Letting the self emerge” is the essential task for leaders. It is how one takes the step from doing to being and back from being to doing--in a dynamic spirit of expressing, rather than proving. Reflection and Resolution.

move in chaos

Leaders are innovators. They do things others have not done or dare not do. They do things in advance of other people. They make new things. They make old things new. Each in a different way.

connect

Not all topics will be covered with the same level of detail. Emphasis on specific topics will be determine by the questionnaire which each participant is required to fill out prior to the retreat. You can just read the book, of course, but Dr. Z makes it come alive for your organization!
